Detroit is getting a lot of negative press lately.  But here’s a bright spot for the Motor City:  It is one of five cities deemed to be home to the greatest number of top hospitals in the nation, according to the 2013-14 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings.

Most of the hospitals on the Best Hospitals Honor Roll have a strong affiliation with a university.

New York City – home to two hospitals on the Best Hospitals Honor Roll and 55 top-ranked hospitals – was the number one metro area in this year’s rankings, followed by Chicago, Los Angeles, Detroit, and Washington, DC.

Detroit had 25 top-ranked hospitals on the 2013-14 list, including the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers in Ann Arbor, which earned top rankings in 12 areas of specialty, and Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, which made it to the top rankings in seven areas of specialty.

Chicago’s Northwestern Memorial Hospital advanced the most rungs in the ladder – jumping from the #12 spot last year to #6 this year …
