Featured Conference

MuniNet is kicking off our Featured Conference series with a look at the Annual Conference for the National Federation of Municipal Analysts, taking place May 3-6, 2016, in Chicago, IL. Chartered in 1983, the NFMA is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting professionalism in credit analysis of municipalities, as well as providing ongoing education for its membership.

The conference will kick off with a keynote address from City of Chicago Mayor, the Honorable Rahm Emanuel. Some of the panel topics include:

  • Illinois Politics and Public Finance – A look at the host site’s political environment, both past and present. How have the choices of political decision makers affected the government’s ability to provide services and make capital improvements?
  • Municipal Bankruptcy Fall Out: Statutory Liens & Rethinking Appropriation Risk – High profile bankruptcies have rocked the trust in previously unquestioned promises of local governments. This panel focuses on just how statutory liens and constitutionally mandated payments are supposed to work.
  • Sustainable Investing – The Rise of Green Bonds in the Municipal Bond Sector – Highlighting the growing interest in the sustainable market, how to differentiate projects, and how value has been derived to date
