“A City is Born” touts the marquis on Sandy Springs’ web site. The first new city in Georgia in 50 years, Sandy Springs – population 90,000 – became an “official” city on December 1, 2005.

With a stated focus on better serving its citizens, Sandy Springs contracted with CH2M HILL-OMI to provide the majority of its municipal services, including administrative functions and public works at a cost of approximately $32 million per year. The city will continue to receive police, fire, and 911 Emergency services from Fulton County for an interim period.
